Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a paleontologist.

The open-mouthed awe from posed skeletons in a fossil hall. The stacks of books about extinct animals of all kinds spread across my bed. And the mild obsession with Jurassic Park – the book and the movie. I knew with all of the resolute determination of an eight year old, that some day I would work with fossils. And, by golly, a decade later I was doing just that – researching and designing exhibits at a local museum.

For those playing the home game: I am not a paleontologist nor do I currently work at a museum.

See, I learned something very important about myself at that museum: it wasn’t the fossils that were fascinating – it was their stories. Each little fossil fit together to paint a larger, albeit incomplete picture of a world long gone, and it was my job to communicate that. Just like every bit of content I create – be it web copy, video script, or blog post – is a small piece of a larger picture of a brand.

I am a communicator. And I’ve wanted to be a communicator ever since I can remember – I just didn’t know it yet.
